Dr. Kumar has had a life-long passion for people & their minds.  Her formal training began at Rutgers University (New Brunswick, NJ) where she earned a Masters degree in Anthropology.  She then went on to complete a doctorate in Clinical Child Psychology, specializing in neurological testing, at Pace University (New York, NY). For eight years Neena was a staff therapist at Washington Square Institute (New York, NY) where she studied & practiced psychoanalytic psychotherapy. Dr. Kumar conducted psychological evaluations & wrote IEP’s for New York City public schools and for four years was a neuropsychological consultant at the Developmental Assessment & intervention Center (Bedford, NY).

In her therapeutic work Dr. Kumar draws from a holistic body of knowledge.  Dr. Kumar believes strongly in the mind-body connection and has found Eastern philosophy and medicine a compelling influence in this area.  Dr. Kumar studied Ayurvedic medicine both in the United States & in Kerela, India. She participated in workshops with Pratima Raichur, Vasant Lad & TKV Desikachar.  Dr. Kumar studies yoga and believes it can be therapeutic, particularly in treating anxiety disorders.  She has worked with several NYC yoga studios, educating and supervising yoga teachers wishing to deepen their knowledge of the mind.

Dr Kumar draws on her cultural, neurological & psychological expertise to individualize an approach for each client. If you are interested in finding out how she would work with you a consultation is suggested.

Dr. Neena Kumar extends particular gratitude to the late Arno Karlen who served as her mentor.
